Stories that move you

As the newest reporter and producer at Nine PBS, it is important to me to make sure we are telling stories that matter most to our community. That means highlighting parts of our history that many have forgotten in hopes that maybe the next generation will never forget. Below are examples of two of those stories. The first tells the story of the more than 300 lawsuits filed in Saint Louis years before the Dred Scott decision and the second is a tease for my mini documentary on the East Saint Louis Race Massacre. The year 2019 marked 400 years since the first slaves were brought to the United States against their will. Today the remnants of that horrifying institution live on. The stories behind the story

This story took months of spending time with two families that take extreme pride in where they come from. Together we gazed at a church built in the name of freedom in the 1800’s and poured through pictures of their ancestors dating back centuries. Here is how we did it together.

Investigation: The State of Hate in TN

I spent six months investigating hate crimes and hateful incidents across the state and in East Tennessee particularly. The data shows these kinds of incidents are on the rise. However, what this story does is it introduces you to the people behind the numbers, the human beings working to end hate in the place they call home.
