Passion
A big passion of mine is personal growth. To me that means pushing the people around me to be better, love harder and do the best work they can possibly do. I try to bring that to every corner of my life and that includes work. Sometimes it means reminding my followers that global pandemics are scary and they are entitled to their feelings. It can also mean weighing in on what it means to be a woman of color in media and why it’s important to never, ever give up.
From Me to You
2020 brought a lot of uncertainty, scary headlines and a really important moment for journalism. Telling stories about my community was really, really important. However, recognizing the way the news of the world weighed on them was important to me too. I may not have the biggest platform, however I do have a voice. With it I decided to comfort who I could and remind them that it is absolutely okay to be human.
Grit & Grace
I interned at NBC Nightly News in L.A. when I was in college. While there I made an effort to meet and learn from as many media professionals as I could. In doing so, I met a woman who led an event planning business entirely lead by women of color. Years later she called on me to share my journey and what it took to get me where I am. But more importantly, what it would take to keep going.
Together We Can
Reporting from my living room was important and vital work but it absolutely came with its challenges. Every now and then I’d take to my Twitter to shed a little love to anyone who needed it.
